Description of research project or assignment:
ESL students will work in small groups on their first basic inquiry-based research project. We will utilize K-W-L charts and students will choose a topic to research. I want to guide students away from random web searches by introducing reliable and accessible (vocab-wise) academic databases and reference books. The goal is to model extracting main ideas without plagiarizing. Students would produce two paragraphs about what they learned, citing 1-3 sources. In the process, students will learn new vocabulary, develop critical thinking skills, learn how to research and strengthen comprehension of specific content.
Additional Information::
I would like the librarian to address students in our classroom, introducing reliable sources to use in the research process. Following that I plan to bring my students to the library during classtime in September or October to do research there.
